Double Ultrasounds: Today we had our monthly ultrasounds down at Riverside Hospital. We had Carol doing the ultrasounds again today - the same technician that did the gender-revealing ultrasounds on 6/14. She was excited to see us again - I guess our story makes us tough to forget. ;) I was definitely anxious to see how they were all developing and hoping to get confirmation that all is well with our 4 little ones.
The Boys: Just like last time, we had my sister go first - so we started off the appointment by seeing how our little boys are doing. Carol told us that both boys were actually in a breech position - with their little bums down and heads up. They still have room and time to move around - so we're hoping that at least Baby Boy A (the lower baby of the two) flips around so that his Aunt Chrissy doesn't have to have a C-section. :) She showed us how the boys heads are actually pretty close and that they were facing each other slightly. The membrane separating them is very thin - so Carol told us that they can definitely feel each other moving about. Baby Boy A was not as cooperate in terms of getting a good shot of his profile - he had his back to us most of the time. But he does have a lovely spine. I chose the picture below of his legs as his photo for tonight - just love how you can see the legs and feet defined. Baby Boy B was much more cooperative and we were able to see lots of nice profile shots of him. At this point the babies still look much cuter from the side rather than from the front - so that's why I picked this profile picture of him below. Carol also showed us how both boys were in the fetal position with their legs bent and feet tucked under. Both boys had matching heart rates of 143 BPM. But Baby Boy A is slightly bigger - weighing in at 1 pound, 5 oz - while his brother weighed in at 1 pound, 3 oz. We always knew my sister's womb was great at cooking one baby boy at a time - now we know that she also makes an excellent at cooking two baby boys at once. Keep up the great work, Aunt Chrissy!
The Girls: After the fibroid checking, we were able to focus on our little girls. We learned that Baby Girl A actually is head down, while Baby Girl B is up a little higher and in a transverse (lying sideways) position. Similar to their brothers, Baby Girl A was playing a little more hard to get than her sister. Carol was asking how excited my mom was about the news that she was getting some granddaughters. We told her that my mom was super-excited, but still a little nervous that they were both going to come out as boys. She did confirm that both girls are still girls - as you can see in Baby Girl A's photo below. (FYI - she did confirm that both boys are also still boys.) As you might remember, Baby Girl A is the one baby that is missing an artery in her umbilical cord (Note: At our last ultrasound, I thought she was missing a vein, but Carol corrected me on that today). The one thing to check for this condition is her size. And the great news is that she weighed in at the same weight as one of her brothers at 1 pound, 3 oz. Yay! Baby Girl B is actually still weighing a little less than her sister at 1 pound, 2 oz. In terms of heart rates, Baby Girl A was the most relaxed today with a heart rate of 136 BPM and Baby Girl B had the highest heart rate of all the babies - checking in at 147 BPM. Also, I can't remember which was doing what - but when we were trying to focus on one of the girls, her sister kept shoving her little bottom in the other's face. I thought Carol snagged a picture of that - but couldn't find it on our photo CD. (Chrissy/Joby, let me know if you remember.) Anyway, it was so great to check in on our 4 little babies and even better to see that all of them seem to be developing as expected - can't ask for much more than that.
I'm guessing some of you may definitely want to check out this video! I promise to post it to the blog for you all to view - but figured I should wait until after the sermon out of respect. I don't want the video getting leaked out before the services on Sunday. ;) We only wish that we could be there in-person to hear his message - but unfortunately, we will all be out-of-town this Sunday. For those of you that live in the area, feel free to swing by Lewis Center United Methodist Church on Sunday!
