When it was my turn, the nurse took me back to the x-ray room. Dr. Williams came in, greeted me, and shook my hand. I told him how I wasn't expecting to see him - since he didn't do the test for me 3 years ago. He indicated that he typically does all of his patients. But then I realized that it was actually my gynecologist (Dr. Lindauer) that had me do the blue dye test before we started with Dr. Williams at Ohio Reproductive Medicine. Dr. Williams explained what he was going to do as he got the tools ready. I don't remember really seeing the big catheter that they used to insert the blue dye last time around - but it was a little intimidating. I bet it may have scared some of the other ladies! I knew it wasn't painful last time though - so I was fine. The actual procedure was super quick - he opened things up, inserted the catheter, and got the blue dye ready to go. Once everything was all good to go - they had me scoot up on the table so that the x-ray machine was over my abdomen and Dr. Williams injected the blue dye. Just like last time, I was able to watch the blue dye show up on the screen as it filled up my uterus and flowed out both tubes. It's still amazing how tiny everything is on the screen. I asked if they could give me a copy of the x-ray and Dr. Williams said that they probably could do that. Then he said, "I don't know what they do - but she and her husband want pictures of everything." :) I think he was referring to some photos he gave us from my surgery back in 2010 - Joby joked about hanging them up on the fridge. Unfortunately, their copier/printer was down today - so they couldn't give me a copy today. But the nurse gave me a number to call later this week - so I'm still going to try to get the x-ray.
It was a good day and I'm very happy to report that things went quite smurfy today for my blue dye test. The most important thing is that my tubes are still open for business! I was expecting them to be - so it's good that they were. A nice surprise was that Dr. Williams was actually the one to do the test. This test should also increase our chances of getting pregnant for the next 3 months and we will take any help we can get. Maybe I should schedule this test a couple times a year! ;)
IVF Buddy Update: I'd like to wish my IVF Buddy a very Happy Egg Retrieval Eve! Tomorrow morning is their egg retrieval out in Denver. Unfortunately, they got some disappointing news yesterday that is changing their original plans. Throughout the IVF process, they are checking your estrogen levels to make sure they don't get too high. If it gets too high - then you could get ovarian hyperstimulation which can be quite serious. Her levels were high enough that they didn't want to risk giving her Novarel as her trigger shot - because that would only make her levels higher. The alternative to doing Novarel is to do a Lupron trigger shot - which wouldn't make her levels higher. The only downside is that you can't do the embryo transfer after the Lupron trigger shot because it suppresses some other things. So they aren't going to be able to do the transfer during this trip and will have to freeze all of their embryos and do a frozen transfer later. The good news is that this clinic's frozen success rate is higher than their fresh transfers - so this isn't really a bad thing. It's just not what they were expecting - which can be tough to handle. But we will all hope and pray for lots of eggs to be retrieved tomorrow and that they get a lot of good embryos to freeze.
