Blood Tests: Yesterday morning I went to the LabCorp by our house to get my blood drawn for the FSH and AMH blood tests. The same lady is always working every time I go there - it was nice to see her again. She mentioned that the FSH results would be available later in the day but that the AMH test takes a few days for the results to come back. On my way into work I left a voicemail for Dr. Williams' nurses to let them know my cycle started on Saturday and that I was wondering when we could potentially schedule the blue dye test and the IUI.
Our Schedule: McKenzie from Dr. Williams' office called me back and left me a voicemail indicating that we could schedule the blue dye test for Tuesday, the 22nd. She also said that we would schedule the ultrasound for Thursday, 5/24. Based on the ultrasound, they would then schedule the insemination for Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. I was excited to hear that we could get moving on things so quickly - next week will be here before we know it. The only problem was that we were planning on going out-of-town that weekend since it's Memorial Day weekend. My husband's sister and family will be back in his hometown and my extended family will be in Pittsburgh for my cousin's bridal shower. I called my husband to talk it over with him. Although we didn't want to miss out on the family events, we acknowledged that no matter what cycle - with our busy schedules, there will probably always be something that we will be missing. So we decided to move forward with doing the IUI this cycle. If the insemination ends up being on Monday, we could still technically travel over the weekend. But if it's on Saturday/Sunday, then we will most likely just stay home that weekend. And I'm sure that both our families will understand either way. We will just have to make it a game-time decision. I called McKenzie back and confirmed the test for a week from today at 1PM and the ultrasound for next Thursday at 9:45AM.
FSH Test Results: Later in the afternoon, I was checking my work calendar and saw that I'm scheduled to donate blood next Wednesday. I wasn't sure if it would be okay for me to donate blood before the ultrasound on Thursday or not - so I called back to check with Dr. Williams' nurses. Nancy said that donating blood should be fine and won't affect anything negatively. She also told me that she just got the fax with my FSH test results. My FSH level is at 6.1 and she said they want it to be under 9, so the test results are good. I found this article that goes into more detail about the expected results for Day 3 FSH testing. Based on that article, it sounds like having a high FSH level indicates that egg quantity is low - but having a low FSH level doesn't necessarily mean that the egg quantity is high. This article recommends doing multiple ovarian reserve tests - so that must be why they ordered the other AMH test for me. I guess we'll just have to wait and see on those results.
IVF Buddy Update: Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to meet up with my IVF Buddy before she flies out to Denver in the morning. We are praying for them and hoping for nothing but the best! I'm hoping to be able to catch up with her once she gets settled out in Denver.
