We headed over to Bob Evans for breakfast while we waited for our 9 o'clock appointment. We did see a few other Ohio Reproductive Medicine couples eating there, too. :) We talked about our chances of this working and I said how my hopes are up again. My husband said that he's not holding his breath - but of course he will be happy if things do work out this time. I asked him if he thought it was silly that we were even trying this - but he said that he does think this is what we should be doing. He just figures if he has lower expectations - then he won't be as disappointed, which makes sense. We'll just have to wait and see what happens!
Just before 9am, we made it back to the office. There were quite a few couples in the waiting room ahead of us. When it was our turn, the nurse took us back to one of the examination rooms. I had to undress from the waist down again and put on my lovely paper skirt. Dr. Williams came in shortly after and confirmed my name and the name of my husband which was on the tube of sperm. He showed us the report of my husband's sperm this morning - he said he likes to have at least 5 million sperm to inject and they were able to wash 7 million sperm for Dr. Williams to use. Good job, Honey!! :) The actual insemination doesn't take more than a couple minutes - he used a long catheter to inject the sperm up so that they don't have as far to swim. It just kinda feels like a pap smear - though you do feel a little pressure as he moves the catheter around. Just like when we did the embryo transfers for IVF and the frozen cycle, there seems to be a part of my cervix that is a little tricky for them to get around. We've asked them before and they've said it wouldn't be the reason we haven't been able to get pregnant on our own. So Dr. Williams had to work a little harder to get it in the right spot - using a tom cat catheter which is named that because they really do use it on cats. :) After he injected them, he told the sperm to "go find that egg." :) He told me to lay on the table for about 5 minutes and then we were free to go.
While we waited, we did what we always do - which is talk about when the baby might be due. We're thinking sometime in February or March of 2013. :) I'm a tad obsessed with music, so I asked my husband to play a song that he thought would be good to inspire the sperm. He ended up choosing "All American Girl" by Carrie Underwood - super cute. I asked him if he wanted a little girl and he said that at this point he'd be happy with a tomcat. :) When my time was up, I got dressed and had my husband take a picture of me of the side - kinda like ladies do when they're pregnant. I figure that most people don't know exactly when they got pregnant - not that I'm pregnant today of course, but you know what I mean. We did this after the embryo transfers back in January and May of last year as well. If things work out, it will be a really cute picture to have. And it things don't work out - it will still be a sad picture. So let's all hope and pray that it will turn out to be a cute picture showing the start of something wonderful!
So you might be asking - now what? Now we just wait for 2 weeks and hope that my period does NOT show up. If there's no period after 2 weeks, then I will take a home pregnancy test and we will hope for a BFP (big fat positive). :) If I get a positive result, then they will probably have me go in for some blood tests to make sure the counts are going up. They are going to check my progesterone levels next Friday - but other than that, we just have to wait it out.
Thanks to everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and texts this morning - we appreciate all of the good vibes that you are sending our way. Keep them coming and hopefully we'll FINALLY have some good news to share with you all very soon. Hope that you all have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! :)
